Gulliver Cellist Marcus Tatar ‘27 Earns State Music Recognition

On October 17, Marcus performed with the award-winning SoleMia Ensemble at the Florida State Music Teachers Association’s Students Honors Recital at Florida State University. The performance was part of the association’s “United by Music: A Nation’s Celebration, A State’s Legacy, A Profession’s Excellence” event, commemorating the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Selected to perform before music educators from across Florida, Marcus and his fellow ensemble members had the opportunity to share their chamber music experience on a statewide stage. The recognition marks another milestone in Marcus’s musical journey, reflecting years of dedication to the cello and his continued pursuit of excellence.
Beyond this achievement, Marcus has earned two additional opportunities to further develop his musicianship.
He was selected by the University of Miami Frost Preparatory Program to participate in the Frost School of Music’s Side-by-Side Orchestra program, providing an opportunity to perform alongside university-level musicians and gain experience in a collaborative orchestral setting.

Together, these accomplishments represent more than recognition for Marcus’s talent. They reflect his willingness to challenge himself, learn from accomplished musicians, and pursue his passion beyond the classroom.
At Gulliver, students are encouraged to explore their individual interests and seek meaningful opportunities to grow. Marcus’s journey demonstrates how a passion cultivated throughout high school can lead to experiences that deepen a student’s skills and expand what they envision for their future.
Congratulations to Marcus on these outstanding achievements and for representing Gulliver on stages across Florida!
