2023 National Merit Scholar Semifinalists

Gulliver Preparatory School is proud to announce that five students have been selected as National Merit Scholar Semifinalists.

Ian Gill ‘23, Victoria Paesano ‘23, Jaedon Rich ‘23, Ava Seymour ‘23, and Josh Trattler ‘23 join more than 16,000 Semifinalists in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. This group of academically talented seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring.

In addition, 15 Gulliver seniors have been named as Commended students for National Merit Scholarship consideration for the Class of 2023: Luciano Assunto ‘23, Salo Bibas ‘23, Nico Breindembach ‘23, Julia Bueno ‘23, Nina Castro Alves ‘23, Andrea De Bedout ‘23, Leonardo De Paoli ‘23, Samantha Diaz ‘23, Gabrielle Gleason ‘23, Cassandra Kraft ‘23, Ava Levine ‘23, Will Olrich ‘23, Isabella Rezk ‘23, Alexis Roades ‘23, and Laura Rovira ‘23.

About 95% of the National Merit Scholar Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title. Last year, all five of Gulliver Prep’s Semifinalists went on to become Finalists, and Tori Hagenlocker ‘22, John Schappert ‘22, and Arul Shrivastava ‘22 were honored as National Merit Scholars.

High school juniors entered the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.
