Raiders Come Together for Breakthrough Miami
This year’s Race to Breakthrough became much more than an event — it was a vivid example of how the Gulliver community lives its values. Students, faculty, staff, and families stepped forward to take on challenges, explore creative ways to serve, and give of themselves to support Breakthrough Miami.
Across all campuses, the week buzzed with energy. At the Upper School, the Athletics Department launched Breakthrough Spirit Week, where dance-offs between teams like soccer vs. baseball and the Sundancers vs. faculty packed the atrium each day with cheering students. Performing arts classes on both campuses dedicated rehearsals and performances to the cause, while for the first time the Lower School joined in with a “playdate with a purpose” and a parent walk. RaiderVision produced a special feature interviewing the Race captains and explaining Breakthrough Miami’s mission, inspiring even more participation. Athletic teams — baseball, cheer, football, golf, sailing, and both the Middle School and Upper School cross country teams — joined the Race together, showing the strength of shared effort.
This collective spirit was guided by leaders who went above and beyond. Athletic Director Andre Torres, Activities Director Celina Sosa, Middle School Performing Arts Chair Carla Duval, and Cross Country Coaches David Suarez and Disney Moreno all played key roles in energizing and supporting our students.
For Race Captains Micaela Pal ’27 and Salomé Tarac ’26, leading the event was one of the most meaningful experiences of their high school years. “From the very beginning, we felt a deep responsibility to represent the mission of Breakthrough and bring our community together,” they shared. “Standing in front of that crowd before the final showdown, we felt the energy and support of the entire school. It made us very proud to be Raiders.”
