At Gulliver Prep, we are proud to honor Hispanic Heritage Month by celebrating the vibrant cultures, traditions, and histories that enrich our community. Our students, families, faculty, and staff reflect a rich mosaic of backgrounds that come together to create a truly global learning environment. By embracing and learning from one another’s cultures, we nurture compassion, understanding, and a sense of global citizenship—values that prepare our students to thrive in an interconnected world. This month, and every month, we celebrate the voices, stories, and contributions that make Gulliver Prep a place where all cultures are honored and embraced.

From Flags to Flavors: Parents Share Their Heritage

Our celebration kicked off with the incredible support of the Parents’ Association, who brought Hispanic Heritage Month to life at our Middle School campus. Parents hosted interactive booths representing their home countries, showcasing memorabilia, books, currency, flags, delicious food, fun facts, and more. Students not only discovered new traditions and flavors, but also deepened their connection to their own heritage while learning about the cultures of their classmates.

The festivities continued in the same way at our Upper School campus as it came alive with the sights, sounds, and flavors of Hispanic Heritage Month. Students, faculty, and families gathered to celebrate culture and community with lively musical performances, Latin-inspired cuisine, student-led presentations, and dance showcases. The event was a true vibrant reflection of pride and unity. The celebration highlighted the diversity within our Gulliver community and the many ways our students honor their heritage and share it with others. A huge thank you to all of the parents who shared their time, energy, and passion—your creativity and generosity made this celebration both meaningful and unforgettable!

News Piece: What does this month mean to you?

Our Middle School broadcast team, RSN, joined in the celebration by capturing the excitement on camera. Students interviewed parents at the event, asking them what Hispanic Heritage Month means to them and why sharing their culture with the Gulliver community is so special. The segment highlighted the pride, joy, and connection that filled our campuses, while also giving our young broadcasters hands-on experience in storytelling. Thank you to RSN for shining a spotlight on the voices behind this celebration!

Spotlight: Conversations with Abuela’s Counter
Our Middle School broadcasting team (RSN) had a special moment interviewing Ani Mezerhane and Cristy Bustamante of Abuela’s Counter, a beloved food & culture blog celebrating Cuban heritage. The students asked them about the stories behind their recipes, how culture shapes identity, and why sharing food is a way to preserve traditions. Their voices and insights added richness to our Hispanic Heritage Month storytelling.

Castañuelas: A Creative Connection to Culture

At the Primary School, our youngest Raiders celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with a hands-on art activity—painting castañuelas. These traditional handheld percussion instruments, often used in Spanish music and dance such as flamenco, carry deep cultural significance and a joyful rhythm that has echoed through generations. Students had the chance to decorate their own castañuelas, blending creativity with cultural learning. The project not only introduced them to an important symbol of Hispanic heritage but also gave them a fun, interactive way to connect with the music and traditions of the Hispanic world.

Culture, Creativity, and Color: Lower School Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

At the Lower School, students explored Hispanic Heritage Month through a variety of creative and cultural activities. They researched influential Hispanic figures — from singers and actors to journalists — discovering the impact of their stories and contributions. After reading La Piñata Mágica, students crafted their own piñatas and handmade instruments from recycled materials, and even designed colorful mochilas inspired by traditional Latin American art. Each activity offered a hands-on way to celebrate culture, creativity, and community.

A Joyful Finale: Music, Culture & Celebration
The month’s festivities wrapped up with a special assembly for our Primary and Lower School students, bringing the spirit of Hispanic Heritage Month to life one last time. Students shared highlights from their classroom activities, proudly wore cultural attire representing their heritage, and enjoyed a lively performance from a Hispanic band that filled the room with music and energy. It was the perfect way to close a month of learning, creativity, and celebration across our campuses.
