2024 Boys' Water Polo State Champions (credit: Miami Herald)On Saturday, April 20, 2024, Gulliver’s varsity boys’ water polo team defeated Orlando Dr. Phillips, 9-8, to secure the 2024 Florida High School Sports Association (FHSAA) State Championship. The title marks the sixth in program history – more than any other boys’ water polo program in Florida history.

Gulliver was led by Gabe Lewis ‘24 with four goals, while Juan Sebastian Ibarra ‘26 was awarded Player of the Game with two, five-meter penalty saves. Alberto Escobedo ‘25 tallied a pair of assists and Sebastian Piedra ‘26 came through with a game-saving deflection in the closing seconds of the contest to secure the victory for the Raiders. In the state semifinal win over Sanford Seminole, Escobedo added four goals and three assists, earning him a spot on the Miami Herald Athlete of the Week ballot.

The state championship marks the third of the 2023-24 school year for Gulliver Prep, and 67th overall for the athletics program.
