Krutulis saw something in her. She hired Ms. Sullivan as a science teacher and coach and, not long after, pulled her aside to say, “You have something special about how you interact with people.”

At the time, Ms. Sullivan did not fully appreciate the weight of the observation. Only later would she understand how closely those words would reflect the career ahead of her.

Now in her 24th year as a Raider, Ms. Sullivan steps into her newest role as Director of Community and Student Life, PK-12, helping steward Thriving Students, one of the two guiding pillars of Gulliver’s Strategic Plan. After serving as a teacher, coach, Director of Activities, Assistant Principal, and Principal, she brings a perspective shaped by nearly every facet of school life.

“Each role has given me a different lens into what students and families need,” she said. “Being a teacher, coach, administrator, and principal has taught me to listen, build relationships, and see the whole student.”

That perspective informs how she thinks about what it means for a student to thrive. “Students have taught me that thriving is not only about achievement, but learning how to overcome challenges, contributing to the community, and feeling confident in what you do.”

For Ms. Sullivan, that means giving students room to make decisions, take healthy risks, make mistakes, and learn from them. The moments that stay with her most are often the ones when a student finds their voice, discovers a strength they did not know they had, or steps forward in a new way.

Her perspective has broadened again as she now experiences Gulliver as a parent, with her son in first grade. “You see the school not just through the eyes of an educator, but through the eyes of a family trusting the school with the one thing you love the most.”

That experience has deepened her understanding of the trust families place in the school and the importance of creating a genuine sense of belonging. It has also given new meaning to Amplify the WE, the Core Value that resonates most deeply with her.

“I’ve always believed that the strongest communities are built when people look beyond themselves and understand that everyone has a role to play,” she said. “Nothing is done without the WE at Gulliver and I am so proud to be part of it!”

As Gulliver celebrates its Centennial, Ms. Sullivan hopes one belief remains at the heart of the student experience: every student matters. “We are not just preparing students for college or their next step. We are helping them become the people they are meant to be.”

She hopes students leave Gulliver knowing their strengths, valuing the relationships they have built, and understanding what it means to be part of something bigger than themselves.

More than two decades into her own Gulliver journey, Ms. Sullivan now has the opportunity to offer others the same kind of encouragement that helped shape her early years at the school. “Being in someone’s corner to me means being on their team, believing in them even when they may not believe in themselves, celebrating their wins, and standing beside them through the challenges.”

Whether it is a student finding their way, a faculty member who needs encouragement, or a family looking for guidance, Ms. Sullivan wants them to know they have someone they can turn to. It is a fitting next chapter for someone whose career has been shaped by helping others recognize their strengths, navigate challenges, and grow into who they are capable of becoming.
