On Saturday, September 6, 2025, Gulliver Prep alumna Sylvia Fowles ’04 was officially inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame — the ultimate recognition of a player whose impact has echoed from her Raider days through college, international competition, and the WNBA.

Fowles transferred to Gulliver for her senior season and immediately made her mark, leading the Raiders to an undefeated year and the school’s first and only girls’ basketball state championship in 2004. Nearly every conversation about the greatest female basketball player from South Florida begins and ends with Fowles, whose time at Gulliver helped launch a career defined by records and championships.

From there, she became a household name: a four-time Olympic gold medalist, WNBA MVP, two-time league champion, and the league’s all-time leading rebounder at the time of her retirement. But before the accolades on the national and international stage, Fowles was a Raider — a leader on the court whose impact on her teammates and the Gulliver community still resonates more than two decades later.

Reflecting on her Hall of Fame induction, Fowles remained grounded: “You just do your job, go out there and have fun, enjoy the company. When it’s all said and done, the job is complete. And here we are.”

Sylvia Fowles ’04 is now officially recognized among the greatest to ever play the game, and her story continues to inspire current and future Raiders to dream big, work hard, and leave their mark.
