2020 Reflections Literary & Arts Magazine, Journalism Accolades

The 2020 edition of Reflections Literary & Arts Magazine has been released, and several Upper School journalism student projects recently won top accolades at the Florida Scholastic Press Association’s (FSPA) virtual spring conference.

The theme of this year’s magazine “Rise” was inspired by current events, with many students submitting pieces they wrote while experiencing quarantine and social distancing. To explore the publication, click here.

Reflections offers a glimpse into students’ creativity. This interdisciplinary publication involves work from students in several academic and special areas including English and creative writing, art, journalism, and world languages. All students are welcomed to submit pieces ranging from poetry, prose, drawings, painting, musical compositions, and photography.

In April, journalism students participated in the FSPA virtual spring conference, bringing home top awards. Olivia Martin-Johnson  ’22 earned first place for her lit mag spread, while Cindy Vega ’21 took top honors for her photo story “Pandemic Perspectives,” and Lucas Figueroa ’23 won second place for his cooking demo video, “How to Make a Monte Cristo Sandwich.”

The 2019 edition of The Raider yearbook was also honored with the “Sunshine Standout” award, placing it as the “best of the best” of yearbooks printed in 2019 in the state of Florida.
