Kiran Masroor ’19, Nicole Nixon ’19 Named National Merit Scholars

On Wednesday, May 8, 2019, it was announced that Gulliver students Kiran Masroor ’19 and Nicole Nixon ’19 have been selected as National Merit Scholars. With this prestigious honor, each student will receive a National Merit $2,500 Scholarship.

Fifty thousand high scorers out of more than 1.5 million 11th grade PSAT test takers nationwide were invited into this year’s National Merit Scholar competition. 34,000 entrants received Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise, while the remaining 16,000 were named semifinalists. 15,000 semifinalists went on to become finalists. Finally, 7,500 finalists earned the distinction of National Merit Scholar.

Kiran, Co-Valedictorian of the Class of 2019, has consistently placed in the top 50 for the National Chemistry Olympiad. She is dually enrolled at Gulliver and the University of Miami and is a member of National Honor Society, National French Honor Society, Cum Laude Society and has served as President of the Math Honor Society (Mu Alpha Theta). Kiran co-founded Gulliver’s POWER Club (Promotion of Women’s Equal Rights), is a coding instructor at Girls Who Code Miami and volunteers with Friendship Circle. In fact, Kiran will be honored at the Friendship Circle’s Evening of Tribute on May 21 for her dedication to volunteer work. She will attend Yale in the Fall.

Nicole has authored and published two books — “Fire Within: Book I” in November 2017 and “Fire Within: Book II” in September 2018 — both of which are available for purchase on Amazon. She is a member of the Scuba Club and the Peer Tutoring Club, where she tutors Upper School students in select subjects. Nicole is also involved with RaiderVision, helps film school events and is a member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society), National English Honor Society, Rho Kappa Honor Society (Social Studies), Cum Laude Society and Spanish Honor Society. By the time she finishes high school, Nicole will have completed 11 Advanced Placement classes. She will attend Northwestern in the Fall.
