Gulliver Prep Named Overall Best Sports Program for 20th Time

 

Gulliver Prep’s athletics program was recognized with multiple honors at the annual Miami Herald Athletic Awards Ceremony on May 27, 2020, including being named the Overall Best Sports Program for the fourth straight year and 20th time overall, this year for 4A-1A. The Raiders also brought home the honor of Best 4A-1A Male Sports Program.

Five student-athletes and two coaches were also recognized at the virtual ceremony.

Gabe Taylor ’20 was recognized as 4A-1A Male Athlete of the Year, while his football teammate Donell Harris ’20 earned Defensive Co-Player of the Year honors. Earning Player of the Year for their respective sports were Chloe Hernandez ’21 (Girls’ Swimming), Tony Sanders ’20 (Boys’ Basketball), and Sebastian Paz ’20 (Boys’ Soccer).

Gabe will play football at Rice University next year, and Donell will continue his football career at Texas A&M University. Tony has committed to play basketball at the University of Notre Dame, and Sebastian will continue his soccer career at Bucknell University. 

After leading the boys’ soccer team to its first state title since 2015, Head Coach Chris Bart-Williams earned Coach of the Year accolades. The state crown marked the seventh in varsity boys’ soccer history and the 61st championship overall for Gulliver Athletics.

For the fourth time, Girls’ Swimming Head Coach Chris George also earned Coach of the Year recognition.
