A former standout student-athlete who went on to graduate from Duke University and pursue opportunities at the professional level, Conner has since built a career in wealth management at Morgan Stanley. In this Q&A, he reflects on the lessons that shaped him at Gulliver, the non-linear journey that led him to finance, and why staying connected to the Gulliver community continues to matter as the school celebrates its Centennial and looks ahead to the next 100 years.
What are you up to these days?
I currently work in wealth management at Morgan Stanley, where I advise families, athletes, entertainers, and business owners on long-term financial planning and investment strategy. My role centers on building trusted relationships and helping clients create lasting outcomes for their futures. Outside of work, I remain active in the South Florida community, enjoy playing golf and other sports, and staying connected with family and friends.
What inspired you to pursue your current career, and how has your path evolved?
My path into finance wasn’t linear. After finishing my football career and graduating from Duke University—I had the opportunity to continue chasing my dream at the next level by signing with a with a few NFL teams. Pursuing that goal was an incredible chapter that taught me even more about resilience and preparation.
Eventually, I transitioned into wealth management, where I found a new way to channel that same competitive drive and teamwork mindset. What began as an unexpected opportunity quickly became a career once I saw the meaningful impact thoughtful financial guidance can have on people’s lives. Over time, my career has evolved through hands-on experience, continued learning, and a deep commitment to serving clients with integrity and a long-term perspective.
Was there something you learned at Gulliver—inside or outside the classroom—that’s made an impact on your life?
Gulliver instilled discipline, accountability, and preparation—principles that shaped both my athletic journey and professional career. Just as important was the emphasis on character, community, and resilience. Those lessons continue to guide how I approach relationships, and personal growth today.
Are there any Gulliver teachers or coaches who positively influenced you?
While not many of the teachers from my time are still at Gulliver, each of them had an impact in some way. Two that are still there that stand out most are Coach Sims and Sarah Compel. Coach had a lasting impact on my development as a student athlete at Gulliver. I love seeing the influence and impact he still has on student-athletes at Gulliver today.
Academically, Sarah Compel-Her guidance and belief in me extended far beyond the classroom, and I’m grateful that we’ve maintained a meaningful friendship over the years.
What clubs, sports, or extracurriculars were you involved in at Gulliver Prep, and how did they influence you?
I played football as a wide receiver and also participated in track for one year. Team captain my senior year was an honor and a defining leadership experience. Athletics taught me discipline, adversity, time management, and how to perform under pressure—skills that continue to shape my professional approach today.
What is one of your favorite memories from your time at Gulliver Prep?
My favorite memory is our senior-year run to the state football championship. The bond our team built and the shared pursuit of something bigger than ourselves created moments I’ll never forget. Those relationships and lessons remain some of the most meaningful parts of my Gulliver experience.
What has been one of your proudest moments?
Athletically, being named the Miami Dade 3A State Offensive Player of the Year at Gulliver and later graduating from Duke as the all-time leading receiver in both Duke and ACC history are milestones I’m incredibly proud of. Professionally, signing an NFL contract and building my career at Morgan Stanley.
What advice would you give to current students?
Stay disciplined, stay curious, and embrace the journey even when the path isn’t perfectly clear. Success rarely follows a straight line, but consistent effort, strong character, and meaningful relationships will always create opportunity. Appreciate the people around you—those connections can last far beyond graduation.
What excited you most abut Gulliver’s Centennial and its future?
Everything about Gulliver’s continued growth is exciting. Seeing how much the school has evolved from my time there to what is has become today has been incredible. The progress reflects a strong commitment to excellence and innovation, and it’s clear that the momentum will only continue.
As the school grows, what’s most important about honoring Gulliver’s history?
Preserving Gulliver’s commitment to character, community, and excellence ensures future students receive the same strong foundation that shaped so many alumni.
How do you stay connected with, and support, Gulliver, and why is it important?
I stay connected through relationships with coaches, faculty, and fellow alumni, and I value opportunities to support and mentor the next generation when possible. Giving back is important because Gulliver played a foundational role in my journey, and supporting the school helps ensure future students have access to the same opportunities and guidance.
