For Stephanie Lafarga, serving as Curriculum Coordinator PK-12 is more than overseeing academic programs—it’s about shaping meaningful learning experiences that help every student reach their full potential. With a background as both a teacher and department chair, she has developed a passion for curriculum design and a deep appreciation for how data can guide and strengthen instruction.
In her role, Stephanie works closely with faculty across divisions to align programs with the latest research and innovations while ensuring they meet the unique needs of Gulliver students. Her dedication reflects the heart of our mission—combining what students achieve with who they become.
We asked Stephanie a few questions about her inspiration for this role, how she integrates curriculum and data to support student growth, and the goals she has for Gulliver’s academic future.
What inspired you to take on the role of Curriculum Coordinator PK-12 at Gulliver, and how does your background and experience shape the way you approach both curriculum development and data analysis?
One of the things I love most about working at Gulliver is their dedication to their teachers and staff’s professional development. Throughout my years working here, as both a teacher, I continually attended professional development that helped me to become the best possible teacher. Developing a better understanding of curriculum design, instruction, and the brain science behind how students learn efficiently and effectively. As a department chair, I began working closely with the curriculum office in particular, as that is what accelerated my love of curriculum.
As someone with a strong focus on both curriculum and data, how do you ensure that the two areas work together to enhance student learning outcomes at Gulliver? Can you share an example where data has helped shape a curriculum decision?
At Gulliver we use research based practices to ensure the children are receiving the best possible education. Throughout the year we administer standards based assessments in order to monitor student progress. Additionally, this allows us to identify areas in which the curriculum is effective and areas where we can enhance.
How do you stay on top of current trends in education, and how do you incorporate new research or methods into Gulliver’s curriculum? Are there any innovative projects or initiatives you’re particularly excited about this year?
At Gulliver we have a curricular review cycle in which every department goes through. When a department begins the process, the first thing we do is study the latest research and trends for that particular department. This involves professional development, speaking with experts in the field, reading books, just to name a few. From there we are able to analyze the department with those department chairs and their teams in order to make any necessary updates, and keep those effective practices that are already in place. Currently, we are working with many departments who are excited and eager to update their curriculum.
What goals do you have for the curriculum at Gulliver in the coming years, and how do you see your role evolving as the needs of our students and faculty continue to change?
As we continue to work with various departments and divisions within Gulliver, we try to stay up to date with the latest research within that particular field. We use data and student performance to help guide our curriculum in order to ensure we are addressing the needs of all of our students.
Bonus Question: Outside of your work as Curriculum Coordinator and Data Analyst, what are some personal interests or hobbies you have that might surprise your colleagues?
I love to cook!
