Cassandra CanelasThrough our Faculty/Staff Spotlight series, we invite our community members to get to know Gulliver Prep teachers and staff members across every division. Our most recent spotlight features Mrs. Cassie Canelas P ‘34 ‘37, Primary School Faculty. How long have you been at Gulliver? What is your favorite thing about our school?

A: This is my 17th year teaching at Gulliver. What I love most about our school is the community of families and friends I have made throughout all my years working here. I love seeing and staying connected with former students and families. I have also made long-lasting friendships. Gulliver is part of my extended family.

What is one thing people may not know about you?

A: I am a certified Scuba Diver.

How do you keep your students engaged in learning?

A: The key to keeping my students engaged is making the learning process fun! It is also important to connect with every student. When a child knows they are loved and feels like they are in a safe learning environment, they will be open to learning.

Why do you love teaching Primary School students?

A: Being a Kindergarten teacher is a gift! This is such an important year of growth for children. They are learning more about themselves and how to be a kind and caring person in our community. They are also learning so many new skills that will help them be successful students and individuals. Being able to be a part of a child becoming a reader, a writer, or discovering something new they can do is so fulfilling.
