Students in the IB MYP program recently welcomed Dr. Oriana Damas P ’28 ’32, a physician-scientist at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, for an engaging discussion on how genes, environment, and early nutrition influence long-term health. Dr. Damas explained that the foods we eat in our first five years can affect which diseases may develop later in life, and shared insights into global ancestry admixture and the multifactorial nature of many diseases. Her visit inspired students to think critically about science in everyday life and encouraged them to feed their curiosity by connecting classroom learning to the world around them.
